We produce with science, we grow with impact
We design our technologies not only for the product, but for public health, producers and the planet.
For us, sustainability is not a marketing page — it is an engineering input: every decision, from raw material selection to process design, passes through an impact filter. Our impact framework rests on complementary pillars mapped to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
1. Functionality and Public Health
A food company's most fundamental social responsibility is that the products it makes genuinely contribute to human health. At Hyggefoods, we embody this responsibility through nutrient-enhanced functional products: from a student's lunchbox to a patient's meal tray, making proper nutrition accessible is our first and most direct area of impact. Our pediatric, geriatric and clinical nutrition formulations offer a scientific response to the distinct nutritional needs of individuals at different life stages. Our food safety technologies — electronic-nose sensors, computer vision, rapid allergen detection — form an invisible but critical layer of this contribution: we work to prevent foodborne illness and allergic reactions at the source, before they ever reach the consumer. Through our MenuOnay platform, we aim to extend this impact beyond our own production line by digitalizing allergen disclosure and food safety processes for other businesses. Public health impact is not a marketing claim for us; it is the first question we ask in every formulation decision: how does this product make the life of the person consuming it better?

2. Zero Waste and Circular Production
In conventional food production, "waste" is seen as an unavoidable cost; we redefine that concept. Through our side-stream valorization approach, we convert food processing by-products — such as peels, pulp and seeds — into fiber, protein and bioactive components using extraction and fractionation methods. This represents a shift from a linear (produce–use–discard) production model to a circular one: the by-product of one process becomes the raw material of another. We treat waste not as a problem to be managed at the end of production, but as a design flaw to be prevented from the very start of production design. This approach is directly linked to the Hyggefoods Aydın Factory's "zero waste to landfill" principle; our goal is for production side-streams to be converted into a valuable resource rather than sent to landfill. Circular production is not merely an environmental virtue for us — it is also a smart engineering strategy that increases resource efficiency and delivers a long-term cost advantage.

3. Low Carbon Emissions
The carbon footprint of food production is largely determined by raw material sourcing and processing method. Our plant-based production technologies carry the potential to offer a lower carbon-intensity production model compared to animal-based sources; our meat and dairy analog technologies aim to realize this potential. Against imported raw materials that climate change has made especially vulnerable (such as cocoa), our formulation technologies that develop domestic alternatives represent a technology design approach that targets both supply chain security and emission reduction at the same time. Our climate-resilient raw material development partnerships and energy-efficient drying/concentration technologies are engineering solutions aimed at reducing the carbon footprint at the energy-intensive stages of production. The renewable energy infrastructure adopted at the Hyggefoods Aydın Factory (solar power systems) and our preference for high-efficiency equipment are the production-scale expression of this low-carbon vision. Carbon reduction is not a one-off project for us; it is a design principle continuously observed in every decision, from raw material selection to process design.

4. Water Conservation
Water is the most critical yet most easily overlooked resource in food production. Our preference for low water-footprint raw materials and processes reflects a production approach that considers resource efficiency starting from the formulation stage. Low water-consumption extraction methods (such as supercritical fluid extraction) and the reuse of process water through recovery systems form the foundation of our water efficiency at the raw material processing stage. The closed-loop water management systems and rainwater harvesting designed at the Hyggefoods Aydın Factory are a complementary layer aimed at reducing water consumption at the facility scale. Reducing water use in cleaning processes without compromising hygiene standards is also made possible through dry-cleaning techniques and closed-loop water cycles. Water efficiency is no longer a choice but an operational necessity — especially for food producers operating in water-stressed regions; we address this necessity with an engineering discipline that considers it from the design stage onward.

5. Local Raw Materials and Regional Development
Türkiye's botanical biodiversity is rich by world standards, yet it is often utilized in low value-added forms. Our botanical raw material valorization technologies aim to fill this gap: we process local raw materials using alternative process methods and turn them into value-added, export-oriented products. Every local raw material contract represents an investment in the future of a producer in Anatolia; working with a domestic supply chain both reduces import dependency and directly contributes to regional agricultural production. The Hyggefoods Aydın Factory is a concrete extension of this vision: proximity to the Aegean region's rich agricultural production capacity provides an advantage in raw material sourcing while supporting our goal of building employment and industrial capacity in the region. Our partnerships to develop climate-resilient local varieties are a long-term, science-based extension of this regional development vision. Adding value to local raw materials is both an economic and a scientific opportunity for us: turning Türkiye's own resources, with its own engineering, into world-standard products.

6. Animal-Friendly Production
Our alternative protein and texture design technologies represent an engineering approach with the potential to reduce food production's dependency on animal sources. Our plant-based meat analog, plant-based dairy, mycoprotein and microalgae-based protein technologies aim to offer consumers both an ethical and a sustainable option, by developing alternatives that are sensorially and nutritionally close to animal products. This approach is a scientific response to growing social sensitivity around animal welfare; our aim is not to dismiss animal products, but to offer consumers an informed alternative. Our precision and biomass fermentation technologies are an advanced extension of this vision: producing protein from microorganisms carries the potential to offer a far more controlled and resource-efficient production model compared to conventional animal production. Animal-friendly production is not just a product category for us; it is a scientific outlook on the future of the food system.

7. Smart Green Factory Vision
The Hyggefoods Aydın Factory, Türkiye's first smart green functional food factory, is the most concrete and largest-scale expression of our sustainability commitment. This investment holds an investment incentive certificate under the Turkish Ministry of Industry and Technology's Local Development Initiative Program, and represents the transfer to industry of the R&D and engineering knowledge we have built up at YTÜ Yıldız Teknopark since 2018. Our factory design is being built on the four core principles of global green production engineering — reduce, reuse, recycle, restart — woven into every layer of the facility's energy, water and waste management architecture.

Renewable energy infrastructure sits at the heart of this design: through rooftop and on-site solar power systems, we aim to meet a significant share of production energy from renewable sources, while using high-efficiency motor and drive technologies for energy-intensive equipment. Closed-loop systems stand out in water management; cycles in which process water is treated and reused, along with rainwater harvesting, are adopted as a design principle that reduces the facility's water footprint from the formulation stage onward. In the zero-waste production cycle, production side-streams (peels, pulp, processing residue) are converted into a source of functional components through our Side-Stream Valorization technology, rather than being sent to landfill. Smart manufacturing and digital-twin technology form another layer of the design: using IoT sensors and smart monitoring systems, we provide real-time visibility into energy, water and raw material use, laying the foundation for continuous process optimization. Heat recovery systems aim to reuse waste heat released during processes such as drying and cooking in other areas of the facility; our sustainable packaging approach, in turn, considers recyclable and renewably sourced materials from the design stage onward. The factory is not merely a facility that produces goods — it is an indicator of our sustainability vision translated into the language of engineering.
